Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, has voiced strong concerns regarding the lack of empathy among Nigerian leaders, accusing them of being disconnected from the struggles of the nation’s poor. In an interview, monitored by BVN on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Adeyemi lamented that many political figures prioritize power retention over the welfare of citizens.
“The fear of losing power drives many leaders to defect between political parties,” he stated, highlighting a disconnect with the realities faced by the less fortunate. He emphasized the need for an environment that supports sound decision-making to guide the nation effectively.
Adeyemi criticized the political landscape dominated by “godfathers,” asserting that such systems breed corruption and lead to leaders forgetting their duty to serve the people. He cited former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an example of a leader who resisted ethnic politics, stressing the importance of national unity.
He also expressed concern over divisive narratives, warning that blaming specific groups for national crises could be detrimental to the country’s cohesion. Adeyemi concluded by urging leaders to reconnect with the populace and focus on genuine national development rather than personal survival.
