Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, has shared a personal experience highlighting the importance of honesty and authenticity in leadership. Speaking in a podcast that went viral on Tuesday, he recounted how he once made an incorrect claim during a sermon, saying that the eagle is the highest-flying bird in the world. A church member later corrected him through a message, pointing out the factual inaccuracy.
Adeyemi verified the correction, discovered the mistake, and openly apologised to his congregation. He used the incident to illustrate how modern access to information has transformed followers’ expectations, especially among younger people who often fact-check religious and leadership messages in real time.
He emphasized that while leaders are not expected to be perfect, they must be honest. Adeyemi said the response to his public apology was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing his message that accountability strengthens trust.
He concluded with a call for leaders particularly in religious spaces, to embrace transparency and adaptability in an era where followers are more informed and expect integrity.
