In an effort to ensure spiritual orientation and encourage Independence and resourcefulness in all aspects, Youths have been charged with being agents of change, both physically and spiritually.
Dr. Victor Ukorebi, the International Manager of Brigham Young University-Pathway Worldwide, made this recommendation during his keynote speech at the completion ceremony for 50 youths of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and 11 non-members of the church, which was held last Tuesday at the church’s Ibadan Stake Centre, located at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Ukorebi, the church was thrilled to change lives via the mission of BYU Pathway Worldwide and that the programme was a part of their commitment to empowering the next generation through education and life skills.
He added that the graduation ceremony of the online studies was to provide access to affordable spiritually-based degrees as well as to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Delegates of the university and missionaries of the church, including, Lynn Sorensen, Susan Sorensen, Larry Hall, and Linda Hall, respectively expressed their delights and charged graduards on the success achieved as well as the greater opportunities ahead.
In his remarks, Larry Hall noted that the church was committed to empowering the younger generation through the initiative and that it was highly impressive that Nigeria took the lead among the African nations to benefit from the church’s support.
“This indeed shows that Nigerians love education as well as are eager to grow spiritually. We are happy that BYU Pathway is achieving its aim to support people, especially the youths to be more educated and spirit-filled. We are highly impressed with what we have seen so far and this will encourage us to do more,” he added.
The Zonal Leader of the Ibadan West Zone of the institution, Elder Abiola Aminu, noted that the concept is a highly subsidised programme that helps to prepare youths for university education with courses like life skills, professional skills, and university skills.
In his remarks, the Local Inspector of Education, Ido Local Government, Oyo State, Mr Stephen Ademola, commended the church for providing such opportunities, just as he noted that it was a welcome development in the state. He also charged the graduates to be good ambassadors and project the goodwill of the church to society.
