Two reverend sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, who were abducted in Anambra State, have been freed after spending approximately six days in captivity.

The sisters, members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, were kidnapped on Tuesday along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area while returning from a vocational association’s meeting in Ogboji.

Although the exact date of their release remains unclear, it was confirmed in a press statement issued on Monday by Sister Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, the Secretary General of their order. She reported that the sisters were released unconditionally and are in good health.

In her statement, she expressed gratitude for the support and prayers received during their ordeal, stating, “I bring to your notice in joy that our dear Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli have been released unconditionally and in good health. We thank God and thank you all for your prayers and support throughout these rough and uncertain days.”

The Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the sisters’ release but mentioned that the command had yet to gather details about the circumstances surrounding their abduction and release.
