In a powerful address at the Conquerors Global Assembly, a church founded by Bishop David Abioye, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, spoke candidly about the ongoing threat posed by jihadists in the Sahel region and West Africa. He assured the congregation that despite these challenges, such forces would ultimately fail.

Speaking on May 18, during a service monitored online, General Musa shared personal testimonies of how Bishop Abioye has positively impacted his life and highlighted the importance of faith in leadership. He urged Christians, particularly those in influential positions, to boldly proclaim their faith, expressing concern for believers who shy away from their Christian identity when they reach higher echelons of power.

“Never shy away from showing you are a Christian wherever you are,” he emphasized. “Jesus said if you deny me before men, I will deny you before my Father.” General Musa recounted his own Christian upbringing in Sokoto, affirming his belief in a living God who supports His followers.

The General urged unity and love among Nigerians, reminding the congregation that the country is facing a multitude of challenges. “As Christians, we need to pray consistently and ceaselessly to ensure that this country remains one,” he stated, expressing confidence in God’s love for Nigeria. He reflected on past predictions that the nation would not survive, noting, “This is 2025, and Nigeria is still standing strong.”

General Musa expressed gratitude to Bishop Abioye for his unwavering support during his tenure as a theatre commander in Maiduguri, where he fought Boko Haram. He recounted how the Bishop’s persistent prayers made a significant difference in his journey.

The General concluded by emphasizing the critical role of prayer in overcoming the insurgent threat, assuring the congregation that the security forces are dedicated to ensuring Nigeria’s safety but need the support of the faithful. His message resonated deeply, encouraging Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and proactive in their prayers for the nation.

As followers of Christ, we are reminded of the power of faith in the face of adversity. General Musa’s call to action is not just for prayer, but for a collective effort to uphold the values of love and unity as we navigate the challenges that confront our beloved nation.
