In a harrowing incident on February 25, 2025, Robert Kasozi, a 39-year-old evangelist, was attacked and stabbed while sharing the gospel in Kiwanga village, Uganda. This act of violence came after Kasozi and his team led a 75-year-old Muslim widow, Hasifa, to faith in Christ during an open-air preaching event, igniting anger among local Muslims.
As Kasozi proclaimed the message of salvation, a relative of Hasifa, incited by the conversion, attacked him while shouting Islamic slogans. This mirrors the trials faced by early Christians, as seen in Acts 5:40, where the apostles were beaten for their unwavering commitment to the gospel.
The violence escalated as Kasozi was stabbed in the stomach, and fellow evangelists Alice Nanduja, James Bazanya, and Frank Biribawa were also assaulted. Despite the brutal attack, which left Kasozi in a pool of blood, God’s providence was evident when local milk sellers intervened, helping to rescue the beleaguered evangelists. This reflects the truth found in Psalm 91:14-15, where God promises to deliver those who love Him and call on His name.
After receiving treatment at a local hospital, Kasozi expressed his determination to seek justice. He stated, “I am going to file a case after leaving the hospital,” demonstrating a commitment to uphold the rights granted to Christians, as outlined in Uganda’s constitution, which protects religious freedom.
The attack on Kasozi and his team is part of a troubling trend of Christian persecution in Uganda, reminding us of 2 Timothy 3:12, which states that all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will face persecution. Despite the challenges, Kasozi’s faith and resolve serve as a powerful testimony to the strength found in Christ.
