The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has fervently urged the federal government to intensify its efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu and others held captive by Boko Haram. As the nation marks over seven years since Leah’s abduction on February 19, 2018, the association stands united in prayer and solidarity with her family.

In a heartfelt statement delivered in Abuja, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh emphasized Leah’s unwavering faith and courage in the face of unimaginable adversity. “Leah’s steadfastness in her beliefs serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all Christians,” he said, highlighting her plight as a stark reminder of the pressing need for religious freedom and safety for all believers in Nigeria.

He lamented, “Leah’s prolonged captivity is not just a personal tragedy but a painful reminder of the insecurity afflicting our nation. We must come together in prayer, seeking divine intervention and urging our leaders to act decisively.”

Okoh called upon the international community to join voices in advocating for Leah’s release, stating, “No sacrifice is too great to bring our sister home. We implore all Christians to unite in prayer and action, transcending denominational boundaries to advocate for justice.”

He urged the government and security agencies to take swift and effective measures against the violence that threatens the lives of many. “As we continue to pray for Leah’s safe return, let us also pray for peace in our land and the strength to confront the forces of evil,” Okoh added.

CAN remains committed to championing the cause of the voiceless and advocating for peace, hope, and unity in Nigeria, trusting in God’s promise that He will bring Leah back to her loved ones.
