In a powerful message delivered by Rev. Kesiena Esiri, pastor of the Remnant Christian Network in Warri, Delta State, the clergyman has criticized the notion that material wealth is essential for preaching the gospel effectively. Speaking at a recent service, Esiri emphasized that the gospel itself is the true power of God, independent of material possessions.

Rev. Esiri argued that if financial wealth were necessary for the gospel’s potency, it would suggest that the gospel is ineffective without it. He cited the Apostle Paul’s assertion, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation,” to underline his point that the message of Christ does not require embellishment through material means.

“Conviction in the hearts of men is not a product of material things,” Esiri stated, urging that true effectiveness in ministry comes from the power of the Holy Spirit rather than personal wealth. He reflected on his own journey, recalling days spent in prayer without the comforts of material success, and stated, “If men would only believe because you drive a car, there is something wrong with that message.”

Esiri also addressed a growing concern about believers being misled into thinking that their faith should guarantee them a life free from trials. He lamented that many people turn away from the faith when faced with tribulation, as they were not adequately prepared for the challenges that come with being a Christian.

He stressed that the effectiveness of a preacher is not determined by the luxury of their lifestyle, arguing, “The car you drive does not make the word of God potent in your mouth.” According to him, genuine worship and connection with God can happen without the need for material possessions or elaborate worship settings.

Rev. Esiri further highlighted the importance of personal sacrifice and surrender to God, stating that the first step in a believer’s journey is to give their life to Christ. He warned that it is possible to be part of a church community yet remain ensnared by worldly influences, urging Christians to separate themselves from sinful habits and influences.

In closing, he reiterated that the true power of preaching lies in the authenticity of the gospel message and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. His remarks resonate with many who seek to refocus their faith away from materialism and back to the core message of Christianity.
