Pope Leo has raised alarms about the increasing violence, discrimination, and persecution faced by Christians in various countries, including Nigeria, following reports of significant attacks on Christian communities. This warning comes in light of the U.S. designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to allegations of a “Christian genocide” occurring amid widespread insecurity.

U.S. President Donald Trump has previously indicated that the U.S. military is on alert for potential action if violence persists, emphasizing the need for rapid and forceful intervention.

On his official X account, Pope Leo shared his concerns regarding the repeated assaults on Christian communities, stating: “In various parts of the world, Christians suffer discrimination and persecution. I think especially of Nigeria and other affected nations.”

He extended prayers to the victims of violence, particularly in the Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where numerous civilians were killed recently. “God is a merciful Father who desires peace among all His children!” he added.

Nicki Minaj to Address UN on Persecution of Christians

In related news, American rapper Nicki Minaj is set to speak at a United Nations event in New York today, focusing on jihadist attacks against Christians in Nigeria. She will be joined by notable figures such as U.S. ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and political adviser Alex Bruesewitz.

Ambassador Waltz praised Minaj for using her platform to highlight these issues, calling her a principled individual. Minaj expressed her commitment to addressing injustices and acknowledged the weight of the responsibility she bears.

This event comes amid growing international concern over the treatment of Christians in Nigeria, with U.S. officials expressing ongoing apprehensions about religiously motivated violence. Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has dismissed these allegations, attributing the violence to criminal activities rather than religious motivations.
