Commonwealth of Zion Assembly has issued an apology to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) following backlash over his comments regarding the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola.
In a viral clip, Fatoyinbo praised Babalola as “anointed… so anointed,” but controversially suggested that “all the grace just went like that” because he “had no money.” The CAC, through its Director of Publicity, Pastor Ade Alawode, expressed concern over Fatoyinbo’s remarks, accusing him of implying a misleading connection between ministerial success and financial wealth.
In a statement, Fatoyinbo acknowledged the CAC’s concerns, clarifying that he did not intend to speak ill of Babalola’s family and emphasized the importance of honoring the late evangelist’s legacy. He reiterated his respect for Babalola, calling him a “highly revered father of faith” whose ministry has impacted many.
Fatoyinbo stated, “I apologise if any other statement made by me has caused any form of distress… I will never disrespect or speak of them in that manner either publicly or privately.”
The CAC’s response highlighted the insensitivity of Fatoyinbo’s statement, particularly his sarcastic inquiry about Babalola’s children, asserting that equating spiritual success with material wealth is biblically flawed.
In his sermon, Fatoyinbo recounted miraculous events attributed to Babalola, emphasizing the evangelist’s anointing and grace. However, his comments have sparked a significant controversy, leading to his public apology.
