The founder of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has addressed concerns raised by a church member regarding the welfare of the 15 individuals who helped establish the church in 1973. During a question-and-answer forum at the church’s headquarters in Lagos, Kumuyi was asked whether the church provides any benefits or care for these founding members, many of whom are now elderly.
In response, Kumuyi emphasized the importance of focusing on spiritual matters over material concerns. He referenced Jesus’ teachings, highlighting that Jesus prayed for his disciples’ spiritual well-being rather than for their worldly possessions.
Kumuyi reassured attendees that God has taken care of the founding members, noting that some have taken on leadership roles within the church and have had their needs met. He stated that God has provided for them, including housing and education for their children, emphasizing the value of faith over material wealth.
While there is no definitive list of the 15 founding members, Kumuyi acknowledged that some have passed away or no longer attend the church. He reiterated that faith is the most significant gift the church offers, as it can provide for all aspects of life.
