The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, has addressed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that hunger and inflation are significant factors contributing to the country’s insecurity. He called for urgent government intervention to alleviate the worsening economic conditions.
Speaking at the 43rd Council of Bishops of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Aba emphasized that insecurity is the root cause of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. He urged authorities to confront these issues with honesty and seriousness, asserting that no nation can prosper under such burdens.
President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, acknowledged the contributions of the Methodist Church to national development and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with faith-based organizations. He highlighted the church’s historical role in education and healthcare, noting that many of Nigeria’s founding fathers were products of Methodist institutions.
The theme of this year’s Council, “He Will Rise Again,” aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, reflecting a commitment to overcoming past challenges. Tinubu further praised the Methodist Church for its advocacy in governance and civic responsibility.
In his address, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, commended the Methodist Church for its dedication to Christian unity and social justice. He encouraged continued collaboration among denominations to address national challenges and uphold Christian values.
The Council of Bishops serves as an annual gathering for spiritual renewal and reinforcing the Methodist Church’s mission, attracting leaders from across the country.
