The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory has voiced its opposition to the newly formed Christians Elders of the North, claiming it aims to undermine the existing association in the region. This stance was articulated in a statement issued in Kaduna, signed by Secretary-General Elder Sunday Oibe.

The statement emphasized respect for freedom of association but condemned the creation of any organization intended to destabilize or undermine others. It noted that the group had recently held a meeting in Abuja where it purportedly conducted elections for Northern CAN’s leadership, an action deemed improper and unlawful by the association.

The leadership of Northern CAN, currently headed by Rev. Yakubu Pam, has urged the public to disregard the election results from the Christians Elders of the North. The group was described as self-serving and undemocratic, with a call for its members to join Northern CAN and participate in legitimate electoral processes.
